The "terroirs"

In the cenic village of Mittelbergheim, we currently cultivate 12,5 ha of vines mainly located on limestone soils that provide a production of outstanding quality.

White wines are produced from the 6 traditional Alsatian grapes : Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Muscat. Pinot Noir is the exclusive variety used for red wines.

Pinot Noir

The Grand Cru  Zotzenberg benefits from a particularly sunny location, where Sylvaner develops an exceptional complexity and a particular minerality. The Zotzenberg is actually the unique Sylvaner referenced as Grand Cru in Alsace.

Riesling from the Zotzenberg often reveals intensive citrus and beeswax aromas while Gewurztraminer has fine and spicy undertones.

The combination of grapes coming from our various "terroirs" (such as Eckweg, Eich, Weingarten…) brings complexity and character to each of our wines.

We have chosen to work in harmony with nature and therefore joined "Tyflo", an organism certified by Eco-CERT that promotes "production intégrée" (Integrated disease, weeds and pest management).

The management of the vineyards

In the vineyards, weeds are controlled through the passage with a plough or the presence of a controlled grass layer. This method minimizes the use of chemical products, prevents soil erosion and naturally regulates the strength of the vine. From winter pruning to harvest, the canopy is continuously managed to control quality and yield.

For the control of pests, we prefer environment friendly methods to the spraying of chemical products. Most grapes are hand-picked and sorted on the field to obtain more character and complexity. Mechanical harvest is however well appropriate for certain fresh and crispy wines.
